The efficiency of estrus synchronization protocols and artificial insemination in the Abergelle goat on-station and on-farm conditions of Northern Ethiopia

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different estrus synchronization protocols followed by artificial insemination on response and conception rate Abergelle goats. Three protocols: (i) standard protocol associating progestogens, gonadotropins prostaglandins (P4 + eCG PGF2?), (ii) single injection prostaglandin (PGFS), (iii) double (PGFD) were evaluated compared a control group that did not receive hormonal treatment. Estrus behaviour monitored in all does those inseminated. The estrous significantly higher P4 PGF2? than counterparts PGFS PGFD groups (p < 0.001). Results also revealed an earlier onset PGFD-treated group, longer duration for second- third- parity -does animals having 3.5 body condition score. Even if (CR) highest when using protocol, lowest kidding (KR) obtained this same PGF yielded litter size. Farmers’ perception surveys proportion goat keepers used controlled mating system had culling practices farmers selected as preferred protocol.
